Allahabad HC Dismisses PIL Against Motion to Impeach Justice Shekhar Yadav Over His VHP Event Speech
Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav of the Allahabad High Court recently faced an impeachment motion submitted by 55 Members of Parliament to the Rajya Sabha Secretary General.

The promotion came after his speech at a Vishwa Hindu Parishad event in Prayagraj on December 8 that sparked controversy. In response, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Allahabad High Court, seeking to block the impeachment process.

However, a bench comprising Justice Attau Rahman Masoodi and Justice Subhash Vidyarthi dismissed the plea, questioning its maintainability. The petitioner, Advocate Ashok Pandey argued that the case raised broader concerns about whether judges have the right to freedom of speech and expression.

But the court disagreed, stating that Justice Yadav is not vulnerable and can defend himself if necessary. With this, the court refused to intervene, leaving the impeachment process in the hands of the Parliament. This case has reignited debates about judicial accountability throughout the country.
