Atul Subhash Suicide | Karnataka High Court Refuses to Stay Investigation Against Wife
The Karnataka High Court has observed that the complaint filed against Nikita Singhania over the alleged suicide of her husband, Atul Subhash, includes prima facie evidence of abetment to suicide and cannot be dismissed.

Atul, a 34-year-old Bengaluru-based techie, died by suicide on December 9, 2024, leaving a 24-page suicide note, an 81-minute video, and a placard reading “justice is due.” In these, he accused his wife and her family of harassment during a legal battle over divorce, alimony, and child custody.

Justice S.R. Krishna Kumar rejected the petition to halt the investigation, emphasizing that the FIR and complaint detail the necessary ingredients of abetment to suicide under Section 306 IPC. He said. “Where is the question of short-circuiting investigation in such a matter, why don’t you want the investigation to happen?”

The court issued notices to the respondents, asking them to file objections, and scheduled the next hearing in two weeks. Meanwhile the prosecution has been directed to present evidence collected during the investigation. An FIR was filed in Bengaluru by Atul’s brother, accusing Nikita and three of her family members of abetment to suicide. The accused were granted bail by a Bengaluru court.
