BREAKING | Kolkata Court Holds Main Accused Sanjoy Roy As Guilty In RG Kar Rape-Murder Case
In a significant verdict, a sessions court in Kolkata has found Sanjoy Roy guilty in the tragic RG Kar rape-murder case involving a trainee doctor.

The sentencing hearing is scheduled for Monday, where Roy could face either life imprisonment or the death penalty, as stated by Sessions Judge Anirban Das.

The Court relied heavily on forensic evidence, including DNA analysis, which directly linked Roy to the crime scene and the victim. Despite his claims of innocence, the court convicted Roy of rape and murder.

The horrific incident at RG Kar Medical College in August 2024 sent shockwaves across the nation, sparking protests and demands for justice. Initially, the case was marked as an “unnatural death,” but widespread outrage led the Calcutta High Court to transfer the investigation to the CBI.

The case even reached the Supreme Court, which monitored the investigation and issued workplace safety guidelines for doctors following this tragedy. While the CBI was unable to proceed with charges against others initially accused, including the former principal of the college and the officer-in-charge of the police station, Sanjoy Roy remained the principal accused. With strong forensic evidence against him, Roy now awaits his sentence.
