Consumer Case for Convenience Fee on Movie Ticket
A complainant who purchased movie tickets for Vakeel Saab through Big Tree Entertainment’s online platform on 10.04.2021 paid an additional Rs. 65 as an online convenience fee.

Displeased with the extra charge, the complainant filed a case claiming it was unjustified. The District Commission ruled in favor of the complainant, ordering a refund of the Rs. 65, along with Rs. 5,000 for mental agony and Rs. 2,000 for litigation costs.

The State Commission reviewed the online booking process and concluded that the complainant was aware of the extra charges and voluntarily chose the appellant’s platform.

It was determined that the convenience fee was legally charged for the service provided. As a result, the Commission found no deficiency in service by the appellant, overturned the District Commission’s decision, and allowed the appeal.
