Consumer Case on Ernakulam District Hold Dry Cleaners for Liable for Churidars
The complainant gave two new churidars, worth Rs. 16,360, to a dry cleaner for cleaning, but the items were damaged due to the cleaner’s negligence. Despite reporting the issue and following up multiple times, no resolution was provided.

As a result, the complainant filed a case before the District Commission, alleging deficiency in service and unfair trade practices by the dry cleaners. The District Commission found that the complainant provided evidence of purchasing churidars for Rs. 16,360, paying Rs. 743 for dry cleaning, and Rs. 1,940 for stitching.

After the churidars were cleaned, they were damaged due to the dry cleaners’ negligence. The dry cleaners failed to appear or respond to the notice, leaving the complainant’s claims unchallenged.

The Commission held the dry cleaners liable for deficiency in service and ordered them to pay Rs. 18,300 for the damaged churidars, Rs. 5,000 as compensation, and Rs. 4,000 in litigation costs.
