Delhi Coaching Centre Deaths: HC Grants Bail To Four Co-Owners Of Basement
The Delhi High Court recently granted regular bail to four co-owners of Rau’s IAS coaching centre, where three civil services aspirants tragically drowned in July last year.

Justice Sanjeev Narula ordered Parvinder Singh, Tajinder Singh, Harvinder Singh and Sarbjit Singh to deposit ₹5 lakh with the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) to support the families of the deceased.

This decision followed their willingness to make the donation, as earlier directed by the Supreme Court. The court noted allegations that the basement was illegally rented for commercial purposes, but clarified that whether this amounts to an offence under the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) would be decided during the trial.

The court also stated that there was no evidence of corruption against the accused. Previously, the accused were granted interim bail after depositing ₹5 crore with the Red Cross Society to improve the management of coaching centres. The case, being investigated by the CBI, includes charges under Section 105 of the BNS (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

In July last year, three civil services aspirants tragically drowned in the basement of Rau’s IAS coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi. The basement, allegedly being used illegally as a library, got flooded during heavy rains, trapping the students inside and leading to their deaths.
