Delhi State Commission Holds LG Electronics Croma Liable Deficiency in Service Due to Unapproved TV Display Panel Replacement (Consumer Case)
The complainant purchased an LG LED TV from M/s Infinity Retail Ltd. on 16.07.2017, which developed defects within the two-year warranty period. Despite multiple repair attempts, the TV was finally repaired on 08.08.2018, but with an inferior TFT panel.

The complainant requested either the replacement of the original part or a refund, but received no response. Subsequently, the complainant filed a complaint against the retail shop and service center, and the District Commission found them liable for deficiency in services, ordering a refund of Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 8,000 as compensation for mental agony.

Dissatisfied with this decision, the appellants filed an appeal before the State Commission. The Commission found that the replacement of the TV’s IPS display with a lower-quality TFT display, without the complainant’s prior knowledge, amounted to a deficiency in service. This unauthorized replacement was deemed an unfair trade practice principles. As a result, the appeal was dismissed, and the District Commission’s decision was upheld.
