Feedback On Social Media Platforms Like ‘X’ Acceptable Mode of Registering Complaints: Telangana HC
Reinforcing the validity of social media complaints in holding service providers accountable, The Telangana High Court has ruled that social media complaints cannot be dismissed as less significant compared to formal written complaints.

Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya emphasized that feedback on platforms like Twitter (now X) is a widely accepted method of lodging complaints and must be taken seriously. The Court was hearing a case filed by a tea-stall vendor at Secunderabad railway station whose license was terminated without notice after complaints were made against him on Twitter.

The petitioner argued that proper procedures, like issuing a notice or providing counselling, were not followed before cancelling the license. The Railways, however, contended that the vendor had received multiple warnings for serious violations, including overcharging, serving poor-quality food, and engaging in an altercation at the station.

The Court found the allegations against the vendor to be grave and upheld the termination, noting that over five violations had been recorded, allowing the Railways to terminate the license under the contract terms. While dismissing the petition, the court clarified that the vendor is only barred for a year and can reapply for a license next year.
