Hunter Commission
Hunter Education Commission appointed by Viceroy Lord Ripon with the goals of investigating complaints about the non-implementation of the Wood’s Dispatch of 1854, the current status of elementary education in the British territories and suggesting ways to extend and improve it. The report of this commission, led by William Wilson Hunter, was submitted in 1882.

Objective of Hunter Commission
The Hunter Commission 1882 tried to improve the Indian education system by developing proper infrastructure, improving primary education, and adopting a policy of religious neutrality.
Recommendations of the Hunter Commission on Education
The Hunter Commission’s recommendations focused primarily on primary and secondary education.
This Commission recommended that the medium of primary education should be the mother tongue. More training schools should be established for primary teachers’ training.
