7 Cs of Communication

The first time 7 C’s words or concept was introduced in the book ” Effective Public Relations” was written in 1952 by a University of Wisconsin professor Scott M. Cutlip and Allen H. Centre
The 7 Cs of communication are: –

(1) Conciseness
(2) Clarity
(3) Correctness
(4) Completeness
(5) Consideration
(6) Concreteness
(7) Courtesy

(1) Conciseness: – Stick to the point. Be brief. This shows respect for our audience, but it also helps to keep us clear and precise.
Ex.- Use bullet points instead of long paragraphs.

(2) Clarity: –

(2) Clarity: – The message should be clear and easily understood. Avoid using complex language. The goal is for the receiver to understand the message in the way the sender intended.
Correctness: –

(3) Correctness: – The message should be correct, i.e. a correct language should be used, and the sender must ensure that there are no grammatical and spelling mistakes. Also, the message should be exact and well-timed.
Completeness: –

4) Completeness: – The message should be complete, i.e. it must include all the relevant information as required by the intended audience. The complete information gives answers to all the questions of the receivers and helps in better decision-making by the recipient.
Consideration: –
(5) Consideration: – Take into account the audience’s perspective, needs, and emotions. Tailor the message accordingly so that it resonates with them and addresses their concerns.

(6) The communication should be concrete, which means the message should be clear and particularly such that no room for misinterpretation is left. All the facts


7) Courtesy: – Courtesy refers to communicating with politeness, genuineness and respect for the person on the other side of conversation. It will naturally scale up the value of communication. Courtesy is a tendency which stems out of empathy for people.
