The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were a set of targets established to meet the needs of the world’s poorest by 2015. The MDGs had eight goals, 18 targets, and 48 indicators.
The UN member states agreed to achieve these goals by 2015. The MDGs were intended to help the world’s poorest people achieve better living standards.
The MDGs galvanized efforts to meet the needs of the world’s poorest. The UN is still working with governments, civil society, and other partners to build on the momentum generated by the MDGs.
Eight Millennium Development Goals

1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.
2: Achieve universal primary education.

3: Promote gender equality and empower women.
4: Reduce child mortality.

5: Improve maternal health.

6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases.

7: Ensure environmental sustainability.

8: Develop a global partnership for development.
