She is a Major, Family Can’t Restrain: Andhra Pradesh HC Allows Woman to Live with Same-Sex Partner
The Andhra Pradesh High Court has upheld the right of adult women to make their own life decisions, including the freedom to cohabit with a partner of their choice.

The case involved a habeas corpus petition filed by a woman who claimed that her female partner had been detained by her parents against her will. A division bench comprising Justice R. Raghunandan Rao & Justice Maheshwara Kuncheam ruled that thew detenue, being a major, cannot be restrained by her parents or family members from making decisions about her life. The petitioner had approached the court alleging that her partner was forcibly taken away by her parents and others, despite having filed a complaint against them earlier.

On December 9, the court directed the production of the detenue. When the matter was heard again on December 17, the detenue informed the court in chambers that she wished to go with the petitioner. She also stated that she did not want to pursue any criminal case or complaint against her parents. Based on her statement, the court allowed the plea and directed the concerned police officer to safely escort the detenue to the petitioner’s house.
